The HEART Program
The Heart Program is all about teaching kids about the environment and other people! They go to different schools and tell us about how to make the world a better place and how we can change the world even if we are just kids. They also teach what it means to be humane and how we can be Humane. They show us we can be compassionate. This means showing sympathy and care about others.
Heart is actually an acronym-
H- Humane
E- Education
A- Advocates
R- Reaching
T- Teachers
Each Thursday we have a period with the Heart Program. We talk about issues, and more importantly, the solutions that we could use to solve. Each solution falls under three categories; Consumer Power; Writing Letters; and Educating Others. We have looked at topics like child labor and puppy mills, and for each topic we talked about the solutions that we could use in order to get companies to listen to what we're saying.
The heart program focuses on human rights, animal protection, and environmental ethics. Being humane is to have empathy, passion, and compassion for the environment, others, and animals. They are trying to impact the younger generations of America in the hopes of a better future. They hope to change the way that we think about things as simple as the brands you buy from, to big things like banning puppy mills to learning about what farms really look like. This is a program that teaches us about the truth behind many things, and they get us to think of solutions that we can do to fix the problem rather than sit there and whine about it. Their mission if to foster compassion and respect for every living thing. They try to educate children and teachers about humane education. Heart is open to all people of any age, race, and religion.
Topics that we have been discussing:
Oppressive Child Labor
Meatrix
Puppy Mills
Factory Farms
Animals Shelter
Consumer Power
Writing Letters
Educating Others
Farm Animals
Compassion
Empathy
